The pop star's Maltipoo, Daisy, was snatched and carried off by a coyote outside her California home earlier this month, leaving the singer devastated and desperate for help.
But fellow dog-lover Stewart showed little sympathy when she told Us Weekly magazine that Simpson should have been "more careful" and then urged the singer to "get another dog".
Stewart addressed her comments on her daytime show on Thursday, stating, "I said that she should have been watching her dog more closely, but I feel very, very sorry for anybody that loses a pet. Jessica, I hope you find your pet, but if you don't, I'm really sorry that you lost one."
