Following her much discussed performance on talent show The X Factor - which she helps Simon Cowell judge - Cole's solo single Fight For This Love shifted almost 300,000 sales in a week.
Last year's X Factor winner Alexandra Burke, who Cole mentored on the series, was knocked into second position with Bad Boys.
Rapper Chipmunk's Oopsy Daisy is at three, while Robbie Williams' comeback song Bodies sits at number four.
Taio Cruz rounds out the top five with Break Your Heart.
But Burke shouldn't feel too bad her track is no longer number one - her debut disc, Overcome, is at the top of the album charts.




Yusuf Islam, the artist formerly known as Cat Stevens, is strolling back onto the stage after a break of 33 years.
