The Rocket Man legend was admitted to hospital on Friday after his flu-like conditions worsened, with doctors discovering the star was also suffering from an E. coli bacterial infection as well.
He was forced to scrap a series of gigs in the UK and Ireland last month, and further postponed plans to take to the stage with Billy Joel in the US later this month.
However, Sir Elton is desperate to return to the stage - and wants to be well enough to leave hospital on Monday so that he can prepare to perform with Joel on 14 November, according to Britain's The Sun newspaper.
The scrapped shows in Seattle, Washington and Portland, Oregon are all slated to be rescheduled.
Yusuf Islam, the artist formerly known as Cat Stevens, is strolling back onto the stage after a break of 33 years.
