The first annual HTC Big East/SEC Challenge is a new men's basketball event lasting three days from Dec. 1-3. All 12 games of the event will be televised on the ESPN family of networks and features all 12 SEC teams and 12 of the 16 Big East teams. The inaugural challenge features nine teams ranked in the early preseason top 25 by ESPN.com senior college basketball writer Andy Katz.
This year's challenge was previously known as the SEC/Big East Invitational, which took place from 2007 to 2011. In this setup, only four games took place between Big East and SEC schools, most of which were held at off-campus arenas of the two conferences. In the old invitational's four years of competition, the two conferences split the 16 games with each side winning eight games each.
Each conference will host six of the 12 games this year. The event's name will change to the SEC/Big East Challenge in 2012 and the games will take place from Thursday, Nov. 29 through Saturday, Dec. 1.
