Avatar makes it seven weeks at top

The 3D space extravaganza has so far taken 72 million pounds in its eight-week British run, seven of which have been at No.1.

Disney's "The Princess and the Frog," set in the bayous of New Orleans, was in second place, just above newcomer, "Astro Boy" which came in at three with the tale of a young robot learning the joys of being human.

Clint Eastwood's story of how Nelson Mandela joined forces with the South African rugby team to promote unity, "Invictus," made its debut at four.

Guy Ritchie's remake of "Sherlock Holmes" with Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law, slipped one place to five while Mel Gibson as a cop investigating the death of his daughter in "Edge of Darkness" fell three spots to sixth.

"Youth in Revolt," the tale of a teenager who meets the girl of his dreams on holiday, came in at seven.

Biggest faller of the week was former chart-topper "Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel" which briefly de-throned Avatar for a week late last year, now down to eight from second.

Meryl Streep at the apex of a love triangle in "It's Complicated" was down four at nine, with "Up in the Air" down in 10th spot from sixth.
