Peter Kowalczyk, 29, is accused of assaulting Lewis as she signed copies of her autobiography at Waterstone's in London's Piccadilly earlier this month.
Kowalczyk, of south London, has also been sectioned under the Mental Health Act.
Witnesses said the 24-year-old star had been signing autographs for about 90 minutes when a man suddenly lashed out at her.
Kowalczyk is due to appear at City of Westminster Magistrates' Court.
Yusuf Islam, the artist formerly known as Cat Stevens, is strolling back onto the stage after a break of 33 years.
