Another British soldier killed

The Ministry of Defence has confirmed another British soldier has been killed in Afghanistan. Skip related content

He is from the 3rd Battalion The Rifles and died as a result of an explosion near Sangin, in central Helmand Province, early on Thursday.

Spokesman for Task Force Helmand, Lieutenant Colonel David Wakefield, said: "It is with deep sorrow I must inform you that a British soldier, one of our own, was killed this morning.

"A fellow soldier taken from us in this conflict; his sacrifice will not be forgotten."

It brings the number of UK troops killed since operations began to 230.
