The Ministry of Defence has named the British soldier killed in Afghanistan on Thursday as Serjeant Phillip Scott, of The 3rd Battalion The Rifles. Skip related content
Sjt Scott was killed in action following an Improvised Explosive Device explosion in northern Helmand Province.
His platoon was attached to B Company during a deliberate clearance operation in the town of Sangin aimed at increasing security for local Afghans and preparing the ground for further operations.
It brings the number of UK troops killed since operations began to 230.
