Ericsson said the contract provides du with a long-term sustainable operating model, reducing its operational expenses and enabling it to focus on providing new services to its subscribers.

Hatem Bamatraf, senior vice president of Network Development at du, said: "We are committed to continuously develop and use our network at the optimum level. Our partnership with Ericsson is a positive step in realization of this objective. With Ericsson's experience in managed services, we can bring new mobile telecommunications services to the UAE market more efficiently than ever."

In July, Ericsson won a managed services contract from Telefonica O2 UK to provide field maintenance and other services for 2G and 3G networks. It also won a seven-year wireless and wireline network services contract valued at between $4.5bn and $5bn from telecoms services provider Sprint Nextel.
