Under the contract, the company will continue to provide network operations maintenance, management, and security support for all data networks within the Pentagon and the National Capital Region. The deal provides constant support through the Network Infrastructure Service Center.

In March, the US Army awarded a six-month contract to Lockheed Martin to bridge the gap between the previous and current contracts, consolidating two separate existing contracts at the Pentagon: the Network Infrastructure Services Operation (NISO) and the Pentagon Primary Technical Control Facility contracts. In 2000, Lockheed Martin won a 10-year contract from the US Army to provide IT infrastructure and network management services for Pentagon under the ITA contract.

Ron Stefano, vice president for Information Systems & Global Service-Defense at Lockheed Martin, said: "We're thrilled to continue to support the critical mission of the Pentagon by ensuring top quality, secure networks. It is truly a testament to the solid partnership our team has with our military customer."

Other US defense contracts the company has won recently include a $31m contract last month from the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) to develop cyber information assurance for military networks. It also won a two-year three months $28.1m contract from the US Air Force to provide the first phase of an integrated technology network to increase the Iraqi Air Force's situational awareness in both military and civilian airspace.
