Peter Kowalczyk, 29, was scheduled to appear before City of Westminster Magistrates' today, following the incident in London earlier this month.
However, his condition is currently being assessed by psychiatrists, who have placed him under the Mental Health Act.
The court adjourned the case until November 23, when tests are expected to clarify possible future charges.
Kowalczyk has been accused of assaulting the former "X-Factor" winner during a book signing at Waterstone's in Piccadilly on October 14.
