Actress Kathy Bates Has Double Mastectomy

Oscar-winning actress Kathy Bates has revealed she has had a double mastectomy.

The Misery star was diagnosed with breast cancer two months ago.

Bates tweeted the news of her illness, saying: "Sorry for the long silence.

"I was diagnosed with breast cancer two months ago and am recovering from a double mastectomy."

In a separate post, she said she does not miss her breasts as much as Harry's Law, her NBC law drama that was cancelled last May.

The 64-year-old won a Best Actress Oscar in 1991 for Misery, and this year is nominated for two Emmys: for Harry's Law and for her guest appearance on Two and a Half Men.

The actress revealed three years ago she had overcome ovarian cancer, after it was diagnosed in 2003.

"My family calls me Kat because I always land on my feet and thankfully this is no exception," Bates said.

"I'm looking forward to getting back to work doing what I love to do."
