Amazing Action Shots From Tweeting Cameras

Stunning images have been posted by 'tweeting cameras' set up to capture the action behind the scenes at six Olympic venues.

The photo-streams include an underwater camera at the Aquatics Centre, one positioned over the basketball hoop, and a camera on the roof of the athletics stadium, looking down on the finish line of the track.

Highlights so far include Rebecca Adlington mid-stroke in the pool, and US basketball star LeBron James at the hoop.

The pictures are being updated continuously on the cameras' individual twitter feeds, which are attracting thousands of followers.

Set up by LOCOG, each camera has its own tongue-in-cheek profile page.

L2012 Basketball Cam's profile page reads: "Michael Jordan? LeBron James? Forget those guys. I'm the King of Hang Time - always floating, right above the Olympic hoop action".

Mat Cam, suspended above the rhythmic gymnastics mat, says: "I don't mind the height. It's the looking down that's the problem. I've just got to close my shutter as much as I can and get the job done".

The idea was to open up the games to everyone, regardless of whether they had tickets, and use social media to connect fans with their sporting heroes from a unique, behind-the-scenes perspective.

Some of the action snapshots captured so far have been spectacular.

‏L2012 Pool Camera tweeted a picture of Michael Phelps which read: "@L2012PoolCam: ok, so it’s wet down here, but check out my 360 view of @michaelphelps of @USOlympic #London2012".

More than 10 million Olympics-related tweets have been sent since the start of the Games, including 1.2 million good luck messages, in what's already being dubbed the 'social media Olympics'.
