    Awards Shows Remember Whitney Houston

Stars at the Grammy Awards in the US and the Baftas in London have paid tribute to singer Whitney Houston after she was found dead in her hotel room.

The Grammys went ahead as planned with a "respectful" tribute to the 48-year-old, one of the most successful recording artists of all time.

"The show must go on," an industry executive told Sky News on his way into the Staples Centre in Los Angeles.

Grammy host LL Cool J began the annual music awards with a prayer for the six-time winner, who had been due to attend the event.

"There is no way around this... we have had a death in our family. For me, the only thing that feels right is to begin with a prayer... for our sister, Whitney Houston," he said.

Organisers had said they did not want a full-blown memorial with Houston's death still so fresh and raw.

Jennifer Hudson, one of many artists inspired by the career of Houston, struggled to keep her composure during her tribute version of I Will Always Love You.

A short clip from Houston's 1994 Grammys performance of I Will Always Love You - the theme from the movie The Bodyguard - was then played for the audience, some of whom could be seen crying.

On the red carpet before the show got under way, R&B star Kelly Price broke into tears as she recalled the duet she performed with Houston last week.

"Singing with Whitney to me, has always been an honour," she said. "We were supposed to meet up at Clive Davis' party."

Houston died in the bath in her room at the Beverly Hills Hilton hotel shortly before the party was due to take place on Saturday night.

The singer had a well-documented battle with drug and alcohol addiction. The parents of Amy Winehouse , the British singer who died after similar troubles last year, were among those to pay tribute to her.

Picking up a posthoumous award on his daughter's behalf, Mitch Winehouse said: "Long live Whitney Houston, long live Amy Winehouse, Long live Etta James. There's a beautiful girl band up in heaven."

On the red carpet at the Baftas Welsh singer Tom Jones said Whitney Houston was his "favourite female singer".

"The best voice, the most natural, sexy sounding person I've ever heard, and it's a shame," he said.

Star of The Help, Viola Davis said: I think what was special about her was how she sang a song.

"She not only had the technical range, she had the heart and the expression. When you heard her you felt something. That's talent."

She's just another dead smackhead who deserves no more sympathy than your average addict. The people i feel sorry for are the ones left behind by her selfish actions.

I cant get over the hero worship she is getting. Save the hero worship for the doctors and nurses that work so hard to save the lives of drug addicts! Whitney Houston took hard drugs, smoked, drank like a fish, and partied hard. Wost still she was a mum! What kind of a role model was she? If she was not famous, im sure we would be saying just another bad mum and junkie bites the dust.

Is it being so happy that keeps you going Edward? She died, can't you just respect the dead instead of taking the moral high ground?

A world with it's priorities so messed up, it would be fair to say it's reaching the danger zone.

You can't serve God & money, money is a good servant but a bad master. Some one accept Jesus into your heart today.
