'Baby Body Parts' Found In London Park

Body parts believed to be from an infant have been found in southwest London, police have confirmed.

Officers were called to an area of Tooting Bec Common early on Monday.

The Metropolitan Police told Sky News: "We were called at about 8am to reports of body parts, believed to be of an infant child, found at a location in Dr Johnson Avenue.

"Officers from Wandsworth borough are on the scene and inquiries are continuing at this early stage."

Dr Johnson Avenue runs through the common towards Tooting Bec athletic park.

As mystery surrounded the tragic discovery, police sources suggested it could have been a still born child as St George’s hospital is located less than two miles away.

It is understood that the body parts recovered were legs.

One onlooker at the scene told Sky: "The area sealed off for forensic examination was about a 50sq ft.

"It looks like the remains were found under trees and bushes between the road and football pitches."

The resident added: "Police cordoned off both ends of the road through the common, and there were a number of shocked residents looking on.

"It seemed the body parts were found fairly close to playgrounds in an area popular with young families, where there are tennis courts, pitches and playgrounds."
