Bangor City winger Les Davies is a surprise contender for the UEFA Best Player in Europe award in the 2011-12 season.
Despite playing in the Welsh Premier League, Davies will be rubbing shoulders with Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo after a Welsh journalist nominated him for the award.
UEFA has announced a 32-player list which included the surprise name of Davies after a panel of journalists, drawn from UEFA's 53 member countries, submitted five names which will be reduced to a three-player shortlist next month.
The winner will be decided in Monaco on 30th August when the Champions League groups are drawn.
Bareclona star Messi won the award last year.
