Beyonce the pup is smaller than an iPhone

A tiny pup who fitted into a tablespoon when she was born could be confirmed as the smallest dog ever.

Now nearly three weeks old, female Dachshund cross Beyonce is so minute she’s still no bigger than a credit card or an Apple iPhone.

Just 10cm in length, the tiny mutt will weigh no more than one-and-a-half pounds when she’s fully grown. She was born in the Grace Foundation Animal Shelter in El Dorado Hills, California, after her mother was abandoned by her owners on the streets of nearby San Bernardino.

Beyonce was the last out of a litter of five to be born and was desperately ill from the off, but vets miraculously revived her with chest compressions and mouth-to-mouth resuscitation.

She is said to be doing well at the animal centre with her mother and four siblings and will be ready to be adopted in a fortnight.

The foundation director Jeanne Warr said: “It’s a remarkable story. You don’t expect dogs to survive with that many chances of death. She is just a remarkable little survivor.”

A "fast-track" application for the pocket-sized pooch has now been submitted to the Guinness World Records.

Chihuahua Boo Boo, also living in the USA, currently holds the record as the world’s smallest dog at 10.16cm.
