BGT Finalists' Concert For Murdered Girl

Members of murdered schoolgirl Casey-Lyanne Kearney's family are taking part in a day of charity events in her name, including a benefit gig by Britain's Got Talent finalists 2 Grand.

The 13-year-old was stabbed to death on Valentine's Day in Elmfield Park, Doncaster. She had dialled 999 for help and was found lying injured, but died later in hospital.

Casey-Lyanne's cousin Emma Paterson said she was moved by the level of support shown since by the local community.

"It is a tragic story but it is brilliant to see so many people giving their time," she said.

"It is something that seems to have affected people nationally and it is touching to see the way that people have pulled together."

Youngsters from Casey-Lyanne's home village of Rossington joined in a charity walk to the spot where she was killed.

Many of them said they wanted to show their respect and express solidarity towards the teenager's family.

One of the organisers Jade Smedley said: "As a mother myself Casey-Lyanne's death reminded me how precious life is.

"What happened is so tragic and by taking part in this charity walk today we just wanted to say to her family, 'We support you and we are here for you.'"

The main event of the day is a local gig including Britain's Got Talent finalists 2 Grand.

Sallie Lax, 15, is one half of the singing duo and is a pupil at the school attended by Casey-Lyanne.

Her stepfather and manager Eddie Van Steen said: "The whole village seems to be participating.

"We are all absolutely distraught about what happened. The whole village is talking about it. There is an air of despondency about it.

"People are so distraught about such a young girl. She was totally innocent, it's not like she was doing anything bad. It is a very sad story."

Casey-Lyanne had left her home at around midday on February 14 and caught a bus to Doncaster town centre where she was going to meet a friend. But she never arrived.

It has emerged that she called police, and a passer-by phoned for an ambulance. Despite the efforts of paramedics and hospital doctors she died that evening.

Twenty-six-year-old Hannah Bosner has been charged with murder and possession of two knives. She has been remanded in custody.

She is due to appear at Sheffield Crown Court on May 10 for a plea and case management hearing, with a provisional trial date set for July 2.

Many happy memories of living in Doncaster as a young child/teenager in the late '50's and 60's when it was safe to be out and about. This tragic and needless crime that happened here will no doubt happen again in another town - why - is it the society we now live in , do Great Britain and the" powers that be" need to get their act in order - YES !!Thoughts are with the family at this terrible time.

The good old days of Ian Brady and Myra Hindley, John Straffen, Bible John, Jack the Stripper (a distasteful nickname thanks to the gutter press). Sadly such things used to happen back then as well.

This is a disgusting publicity stunt because BGT is falling in the ratings.
