I like
Gordon Brown. That's not a ‘cool' thing to say in the media at the moment, the
bandwagon of anti-Brown writers is growing by the day.
Despite the mess the government is in I still think Brown is an intelligent, trustworthy and decisive man, a good leader to have in a crisis. But do I think he should be our Prime Minister? No, for one simple reason - he can't communicate with us.
Every time I see poor old Gordon talk I want to end it all. He's either creepily happy to the point of nausea or he's morbidly depressing, there's little in-between.
We look across the pond and see Barack Obama charming audiences with his fresh, well-delivered speeches then we look back at our TV sets and see Brown either struggling to save his political life with an (understandably) mopey face or see him on the GMTV sofa saying how much he likes Susan Boyle, with a hideously forged smile. Doesn't seem fair does it? Where's our charismatic leader? Where's our hope?
So what's the alternative? Realistically the only alternative at the moment is David Cameron. I don't like Cameron, I think he's smarmy and I don't think he really has many strong ideas of his own. He jumped on the back of both Nick Clegg's big wins lately - a call for the Speaker to quit and the "justice for Ghurkas" campaign. But say what you like about Cameron, he talks a good talk and in modern politics if you can do that you're half way there. He speaks with confidence, passion and energy and that's exactly what we need to hear at the moment.
We need change, we need light at the end of the tunnel; we need hope. Will all that come if/when Cameron is elected? I doubt it, but we probably won't be feeling so morbid every time we see the news and that's a start at least.

Its amazing how a decision could be made about desiring change of a national leader
simply because he does not speak like Obama. Really amazing!!! Only in Britain!
No two people are the same and its very unfair to compare Gordon Brown and Obama on
that level alone.
Obviously Gordon Brown has strengths that maybe Obama does not have and I think the
two should not even be compared. The destinies of the US and Britain are very
different and therefore their leaders.

Gordon Brown has always left me feeling morbid and suicidal. This guy and his bunch of acolytes, pretending to be a government, while they construct their police state, hafe scared me for decades. Gordon can never keep a straight face when talking about how he is going to spend everyone's money, now that it has all gone, he starts printing his own to make him look good. It is so sad that there are many who never knew and more who have forgotten the hyper inflation 70's.
Now,the Tories will have to be the one's to sort out the economy yet again. After all. it was John Major's legacy that Gordon relied upon to fund his over zealous spending plans. The fact that we endured the privations to create a better future and now it has been squandered by the scottish mafia in Downing Street.
The sooner we fix the real problems, the sooner we can get on with our lives again and pray we never have another labour goivernment to destroy this country.

I would vote for anyone who would bring discipline back to the schools - including the the cane if necessary. 'Dogooders' have ruined this country. We need to get back to the old standards, both discipline and teaching.

Nothing to choose between them really - both have been 'selective' in the way they've dealt with the current expenses scandal. Both have a moribund bunch of losers attached to them and both are wildly out of touch with the ordinary working man in the street.
The old saying "You've 2 choices - Bob Hope and No Hope" springs quickly to mind...

It's funny you should mention the word 'smarmy' because that's exactly how I and many of my friends feel about Cameron! In fact we use the word 'sleazy' which I think might be closer to the truth. Fact is I prefer the 'boring' label over 'a smarmy sleaze' anyday, because I know which characteristic I would trust out of the two. I also just wish Cameron would stop demanding an election...it actually is not up to him and methinks it belies a man who knows that given another year and the global recession (who according to Panarama was solely the fault of the Americans, and Spain France and Germany have just announced that they are worse off from the fallout than we English!)behind us we will once again not be having stupid/ignorant knee jerk reactions - like Cameron - and see Brown for the wise but boring politician that he is. Do you not think Thatcher, Blair , Cameron et al were not fully aware of the expences debacle before this fiasco and did they pull the plug - NO WAY but at least Brown is actually sorting it!!!
Wonder if Cameron plans another photo shoot on a lovely British beach again this Summer before taking off on a flotilla of boats owned by his multi millionnaire entourage. I know whose pockets he'll be lining if he should get into power.

Why must CHARISMA take place over good, common sense care for what is best. How shallow can we be that a celebrity face, no matter what rubbish it is spouting, is considered better than someone who is sincere and genuinely cares. Why is it so un-cool to support goodness and kindness? Where have we lost our fundamental values of what is worthwhile - and set them against popularist rhetoric and easy bucks and shock tactic headlines? To say that Gordon Brown is not passionate about what he is doing is ridiculous. Every time he makes a speech, it comes from the heart and is delivered with unswerving committment to his job and getting the country through. I find it inconceivable to think that anyone with true vision could consider David Cameron is even on the same page! Charisma? If that's what it has come down to, that we vote for the man who has the cleverest turn of phrase, despite what his lack of policies are - I utterly despair of the human race as a whole.
