Can Cameron give us our hope back?

Mon Jun 15 12:56PM
I like Gordon Brown. That's not a ‘cool' thing to say in the media at the moment, the bandwagon of anti-Brown writers is growing by the day.

Despite the mess the government is in I still think Brown is an intelligent, trustworthy and decisive man, a good leader to have in a crisis. But do I think he should be our Prime Minister? No, for one simple reason - he can't communicate with us.

Every time I see poor old Gordon talk I want to end it all. He's either creepily happy to the point of nausea or he's morbidly depressing, there's little in-between.

We look across the pond and see Barack Obama charming audiences with his fresh, well-delivered speeches then we look back at our TV sets and see Brown either struggling to save his political life with an (understandably) mopey face or see him on the GMTV sofa saying how much he likes Susan Boyle, with a hideously forged smile. Doesn't seem fair does it?  Where's our charismatic leader? Where's our hope?

So what's the alternative? Realistically the only alternative at the moment is David Cameron. I don't like Cameron, I think he's smarmy and I don't think he really has many strong ideas of his own. He jumped on the back of both Nick Clegg's big wins lately - a call for the Speaker to quit and the "justice for Ghurkas" campaign. But say what you like about Cameron, he talks a good talk and in modern politics if you can do that you're half way there. He speaks with confidence, passion and energy and that's exactly what we need to hear at the moment.

We need change, we need light at the end of the tunnel; we need hope. Will all that come if/when Cameron is elected? I doubt it, but we probably won't be feeling so morbid every time we see the news and that's a start at least.

  1. Sommiewoman said it all as far as I am concerned!! I can't believe there are people out there who still believe that Gordon Brown and/or Labour are worth voting for. Labour inherited a fantastic economy - the evidence speaks for itself. Where do I begin? The words stupidity and blindness don't really even begin to scratch at the surface do they?!! I only hope people have their heads screwed on straight when a general election finally does come around. The only reason Brown hasn't called one already is because he has messed up so badly that he is now relying on a "scorched earth" policy. He'll leave nothing to work with and whoever does get in next won't have a hope of repairing this country whilst they're elected. It's arrogant, ignorant and, in all honesty, totally expected by those who can see through the one eyed Scottish toad.

  2. Not much of choice is it, Brown or Cameron? The forment gets on with a job no one wants him to do. The latter wants to do a job no one wants him to get.

Maybe it is time to choose another party.

  3. Let us not forget who put this country into this recession.Brown was chancellor under Blair and bleated on about his fiscal rules all of which he broke, he is the last person i want to see us through these tough times.
This idiot sold off our gold reserves when gold was at an all time low.Who ever is elected next time is going to have a major problem trying to get our heads above water such is the financial mess this government has got us into.
Unfortunately Labour have done exactly what they did the last time they were in power and turned a healthy economy into a huge debt. I would never vote Labour again unless there was a complete clearout of these idiots. Granted the alternatives are far from perfect but nothing could be worse than this current shower.

  4. Whilst we are in an economic financial mess we are in I would rather have Gordon Brown taking us through it as he understands the financial world wholly moreso than that idiot David Cameron.. All politicians have been able to get away with making claims that we now are horrified with for so long its the system that is wrong if it allows them to take advantage...

  5. Vote for cameron, i dont think so!!! The man is a tory with no soul. What can he and his party actually do to get us out of the mire we are in. Why cant our politicians all work together for a "United Kingdom." or do people think thats to idealistic.

  6. bgreenall (post 30) - While I'm not a dyed-in-the-wool tory, I must correct you over the miners. It was Scargill's intransigence and inability to see any sense that was responsible for the decimation of the coal mining industry in this country. Try mentioning his name in any pub or working mens club in the South Wales valleys and see what response you get - and, yes, I do know what I'm talking about, I'm from an ex mining family in an ex mining community.

  7. I also do not like Davis Cameron what worries me if he gets in my father will loose his heating allowance he is 94 and he uses it for heating, yet he will lower the inheritance tax, so there again it is one rule for the rich and one for the poor, David Cameron cannot even get members of his own party to give up there second jobs (lucky them) let them live on a carers allowance, MPs should not be allowed second jobs they earn enough any way, all parties must clean there act up, then perhaps if they are squeaky clean the voters will come out at election time, myself sooner have Brown than Cameron

  8. Cameron is a disaster waiting to happen.

He will say or do anything his 'strategists' tell him. This Eton boy is out of touch with with reality, and his pedigree is horrendous - from being a Thatcher boy to being a part of the Black Wednesday fiasco.

I'm voting for the only Party that has a policy that will give us a future - the Green Party.

  9. Cameron will be fine once he cracks sincerity. Just because he comes across like a used care saleman trying to sell a Lexus with no engine under the bonnet doesn't mean he is being devious, mind you there is a 99% chance he is and as for his shadow chancellor! Would you trust him with the countries finances?
