Michael Jackson's memorial service

Tue Jul 07 04:01PM

Michael Jackson's star-studded memorial service ended on a fittingly emotional note after fans, friends and stars paid tribute to the 'King of Pop'.

The service began when his coffin was carried into the Staples Center in Los Angeles by his brothers before tributes were paid by Diana Ross and Nelson Mandela.

Mariah Carey then sang 'I'll Be There' before Queen Latifah read a Maya Angelou poem and Llionel Richie took to the stage. As expected Stevie Wonder, Jennifer Hudson, Usher and John Mayer also performed.

One of the most emotional tributes came from close childhood friend Brooke Shields who, while fighting back the tears, reminisced about their good times together.

All of the performers then rejoined the stage to perform a tear-jerking version of 'Heal the World' before his family, including his daughter, addressed the crowd as the world said goodbye to Michael Jackson.

It is estimated that an astounding 750 million people watched the service live around the world.

  1. The man was a multiple child abuser who only escaped justice because the US legal system is more flawed than ours and because his staff removed all the incriminating evidence before the police arrived. Why are all you idiots praising him? We should be glad as his death has almost certainly saved more children from being abused. I call that poetic justice.

  2. So the best instrument Quincy Jones played is permanently broken. Look, a talented man, yes. A wierdo, certainly. Father of his "children", probably not. Gave pleasure to millions, of course. Did they pay for the priviledge, through the nose. Just another man. Please do not sanctify him. Yes, you miss him. That's ok, we all miss those we love, but be realistic. He was very far from being a saint. Also, if anyone had any real respect for him, they would not have gone with or to that vomit-inducing shmaltzfest of a "memorial service". Just more vultures picking over the bones. He's dead, mourn and move on, no cannonisation.

  3. Wish I could've made the wake for Michael Jackson, what I did was leave a message for the manager of LeParc Hotel,
Beverly Hills with a song first written in 1980 when my first husband, John Lennon was shot in NY City, it was published by Grateful Dead Productions. I would like to join Jermaine and Janet for the concert in O2 in London to perform the song with regard to Michael Jackson with my condolences to him, however, I'm not sure who's managing Janet or Jermaine now so perhaps you can call my Press Secretary Jim Hefferman at 6198478504. I'll be in LA in a week and will call to make an appointment. Peace, Blessings and Agape Love to all of Michael Jackson's family and thankyou Bob Michaelson for hiring me when I had Jerry's first son and the partners in the studios we had aquired in San Mateo and Los Angeles took all that money. 15 years I've sacrificed and been the victim of numerous thefts.
If performing will be possible for me, Majestic herself, not Stephanie Dressler that portrays me or Heather "anika"
Dressler, who together took the copyrights for Peaceful, Antique Rose, Eternal Garden/Ressurection Love and because Len Dressler payed off the recording academy to allow the Dresslers to take the money from the award Jennifer Dugas,
Barbara Degan, Ann Mechalborg acknowledged that I won after I faxed them the original copyright registations, it would be wonderful because although I've played with alot of bands, I haven't done alot since losing that son by Jerruy Garcia or Kevin Ogden and my daughter by Gregory Lenoir Allman due to the grief. I grieved eight months at 16 in India when I was told my first husband had been shot, 4 years after the fifth husband, Jerry Garcia had died and now I've lost my son and my daughter. I have come through the pain for the most part and am ready to play a four hour show of original songs so please show your support and come to the shows when the 1st and only Ressurection Love Band makes the scene. Love on you all, Dana Lennon 7 Allman Garcia, 14 Allman Green Garcia the other one Apple, Majestic, or Dana Jubilee Daisy Sunshine Garcia.

  6. It is sad when anyone dies before their 3score and 10 years are up. I have never been much of a fan tho' cos I am too ancient and do now what my dad did to me when I was' in to' the Beatles. there have been a lot of teenage deaths round here due to speeding in cars a lot of wasted lives and heartbroken parents. My heart goes out to M.J's children who look set to be exposed to all the media attention now without their fathers protection.

  7. I have heard rumours that MJ is not dead, that he was so fed up with being hounded by the media that he found a double, who then had a convenient "medication accident" and was substituted for MJ while the man himself fled to a secret location for a bit more plastic surgery to disguise his features. I must admit that if I had been houded by the press all my life and I had MJ's money I might think up some pretty drastic ways of getting away from it all. Does anyone else know anything about this?
