Do we have to blame somebody for everything?

Sat Aug 01 06:42PM

I was amused reading Michael Fish's blog entry on The Guardian website this week. Mr Fish writes that our long running dissatisfaction with British weather should be blamed on the media.

That's a bit rich isn't it?

Personally I blame the blame culture to which Mr Fish subscribes, and which he has now forced me into. He's actually just made me blame the blame culture - perhaps he's cleverer than I give him credit for.

In all seriousness, sometimes things just happen, we don't always need to blame somebody every time something goes wrong. We do that way too much already, let's not do it with the weather as well or we'll end up like Billy Connolly in that terrible film ‘The Man Who Sued God'.

I don't think anybody seriously thinks the Met Office is the cause of all our pain and longing for sunnier skies and I don't think anybody can seriously accuse the media of overtly sexing up the weather. Just look outside.

It's more likely that we're fed up of people like Cristiano Ronaldo prancing about in little pink shorts on the Mediterranean somewhere while we're all eating tasteless ‘deep fill' sandwiches at our desks whilst simultaneously being terminally pale.

Michael Fish is as close as we will ever get to a meteorological legend so I'm certainly not trying to pick a fight with him. He has the ultimate weapon of being able to say "You will NOT be swept away in a hurricane" and as quick as a flash I'd be whisked away. He proved it again this week.

Michael Fish: "[The US] have hurricanes and tornadoes that kill thousands of people that thankfully we don't get in this country."

Cue ironic weather -‘Twister tears across island'.

One thing that Fish said that did affect me though was that there are only five weeks of summer left. That can't be true can it!? Back to the BLT and window staring I go.

  4. I hate the blame culture in this country, people can't seem to take responsibility for thier own actions! note the story of the woman who has had her eyes burned with bleach by a bunch of people who she had asked to keep quiet in a cinema! why would you need to ask anyone to be quiet in a cinema! surely that goes without saying!

  5. Its not that we Blame the weathermen for the bad weather, what we blame them for is when they insist, with the thousands of poundsworth of weather prediction equipment, that the weather will be fine, or hot, or fit for Summer long barbecues, and they they keep @#$%ing the forecast up and are totally bloody wrong!

  8. Why not just write The US instead of making the article look amateurish and confusing by the unnecessary and incorrect square brackets?.

  9. Maybe we should blame ourselves for not making the best of whatever situation we are in. Though some of us are in a much better situation than others. Remember, just because you want something to be a certain way, doesn't mean it has to be that way. Why should the world revolve around any one of us? I have a theory, if you don't expect anything from anything or anybody, then anything you do get is a bonus! Another point is that nobody can upset you, it's the way you react to what people do that upsets you, so basically you upset yourself. Sometimes it's easier to laugh things off than others. But it is our own attitude to life and it's what we think about ourselves and others that make the difference. Being possitive isn't always easy but it is always important! Have a nice day !!!
