Brazil Carnival Contest Ends In Samba Punch-Up

Brazil's Sao Paulo carnival parade contest ended in riots after a man stole and destroyed the judges' results.

As crowds waited to hear which samba school would be named the winner, a man jumped over security gates surrounding the judges and grabbed their results - tearing them up as he made his getaway.

The man appeared to be a member of Imperio de Casa Verde samba school, which did not look set to be placed in one of the top spots.

A mob quickly formed, knocking over tables, damaging the trophies and fighting amongst themselves.

Despite swift police action the violence spilled out onto the highway- with rioters setting fire to carnival floats and trying to tear down metal barriers.

The man who sparked the violence was arrested and is being held without bail, according to local reports.

If I rightly understand, Brazil is generally shown on aglo-saxon media, as a beastly place where half animals can't control own 'instincts' and 'violence'. More than 90 percent of english speaking journalists and readers make not the minimalste effort even to know that
brazilian are portuguese speakers ! And ignorance, such an ignorance and infammy, perpetuates itself like 'a vicious circle'. Rio, not the brazilian capital since 1961, suffers
from 'decadence' under brazilian circumstances, therefore what happens in Rio is not, and cannot be generalized to Brazil - this particular news is not from Rio, (animals are everywhere in Brazil?) - very well, but I understand because of the 2016 Olympics, in as much as what happenned about the World Soccer Cup in South Africa, some kind of hysteria tryies to disseminate the idea - or confirm it - that World Olympics Authority were out of mind when chose, for the first time, a South American (and in this case, portuguese speaking) city to host the event. Sad for you.

I don't think the Brazillans would Like to be called Portuguese even though they speak it.
