Brilliant Froch Wins Third World Title

A devastating performance from Carl Froch stopped defending champion Lucian Bute and earned him a third world title.

Froch beat the Romanian in the fifth round to take the IBF super-middleweight title in Nottingham.

The 34-year-old Froch went into the fight with Canadian-based Bute as the underdog, but he was in charge from the first bell.

The win brought Froch's career record to 29 wins to two defeats. For Bute it was a first defeat in 31 fights.

Bute did well to last through four rounds of explosive hitting, and was saved by the bell at the end of the fourth round. A Froch right hand followed by a flurry of punches brought Bute down at the start of the fifth. His corner stopped the referee's count to spare him further pain.

Froch said the win made up for his defeat in December to Andre Ward: "After the Ward defeat I was very deflated. I was here tonight to put right a wrong.

"I came here more determined than I've ever been before. I've been guilty of switching off in the past but tonight I've been very focused."
