Brit Awards 2014: Nominations Revealed

London group Bastille and electro brothers Disclosure lead the way at the Brit Awards with four nominations each.

Ellie Goulding also picked up three nods at Thursday's nominations event - for best British female and twice for best single.

She is nominated for her songs Burn, and I Need Your Love.

Electronic music is also represented by drum and bass quartet Rudimental, who equal Goulding with three nods.

The coveted British album of the year award will be chosen from records by Arctic Monkeys, Bastille, Disclosure, Rudimental and David Bowie.

Singer-songwriter Tom Odell and Jake Bugg are nominated in the best British male category, along with David Bowie, James Blake and John Newman.

Birdy, Ellie Goulding, Jessie J, Laura Marling and Laura Mvula are all in the running for best British female.

All-conquering pop group One Direction are also named in the British group category, where they take on the likes of Sheffield's Arctic Monkeys.

Among the international nominees are Arcade Fire, Haim, Lady Gaga, Drake, Pink, Daft Punk and Eminem.

Sam Smith was previously named as winner of the Brits Critics' Choice award in December.

The showpiece night for the UK music industry takes place on February 19 at London's O2 arena and will be hosted for the fifth and final time by actor James Corden.

Ellie Goulding, Arctic Monkeys and Katy Perry are among those lined up to perform.

Thursday night's nominations event - held on London's Southbank - included performances from Tinie Tempah, Pixie Lott and Rudimental.

Philip Treacy, who has created memorable headgear for the likes of Lady Gaga, Madonna and Princess Beatrice, has designed the trophies for the awards.
