A British skydiver has died in Portugal after reportedly free-falling for more than 15,000ft.
The man, named locally as 44-year-old Jonathon Wickham, originally from Ormskirk in Lancashire, disappeared following his jump on Saturday afternoon.
But his body was discovered at around 9.30am on Sunday by police with sniffer dogs, in bushes around 2km from the Portimao Aerodrome, according to reports.
It is believed that his parachute failed to open.
Expat Mr Wickham had been living in Odiaxere, just outside Portimao, for a number of years.
In a report on the Algarve Daily News website , tributes are paid to him.
It said: "He was a well-known and respected businessman who will be keenly missed by the Algarve business community, his many customers and especially his wife Catherine, who ran the business with her husband."
A Foreign and Commonwealth Office spokesman said: "We can confirm the death of a British National in Portugal. We stand ready to provide consular assistance to the family."
Skydiving is extremely popular at the Portimao Aerodrome and 200 skydivers are thought to have jumped there during the weekend.
