British Soldier 'Was A Born Leader Of Men'

A British soldier who was shot dead in Afghanistan has been named by the Ministry of Defence as Lance Corporal Gajbahadur Gurung from the 1st Battalion The Yorkshire Regiment.

LCpl Gurung was serving as a part of Combined Force Nahr e Saraj (North), and was a member of an International Security Assistance Force foot patrol to disrupt insurgent activity when he received a fatal gunshot wound on Friday.

Comrades of the Gurkha have described him as a "born leader of men".

His death brings the total number of British forces personnel or MoD civilians to have died while serving in Afghanistan since the start of operations in October 2001 to 397.

How many more brave serving men and women must die in this sad conflict that will not be won? I don't claim to have the solution but I do know that we don't appear to have made very much progress with this war and the human cost is simply not justified. Bring our boys and girls home now. Let the Afghans sort out their own issues

A brave man, who made his way from Nepal to join the best Army in the world. He stands, along with all the soldiers in our Army, mountains taller than the cretans who make such infantile and immature comments on this site. The cretans only mark on this world is a pile of sick in the gutter on a Friday night, and the cross they make to sign on for their benefit payment. None of them would be good enough to lick his boots.
Fly high brave soldier, fly well, and meet your Maker with your head held high having served your country and your fellow man well.

Its the same ol #$%$ everyime a soldier dies, Bring our boys home how many more and so on, Honestly they know what they sign up for its a war and if you keep saying bring them home then you are asking them to backdown from a war, They are paid to be there and thats that, its the army and they are in it. If they are prepared to give fire then they have to be prepared to take it, It works both ways, Like i said its a war. So stop with all this puppy business and let them try and do what they wanted to do. Even though i think they are wrong.

Like the 396 who were eliminated before him, Gurung was in Afghanistan on a mission to kill and maim. Therefore, he deserves what he got!

Totally agree. If you wanna give then be prepared to take, I know a 20 year old lad who has joined up and will be going to Afghanistan and he is full of what he is gonna do to the taliban when he gets there. Now this has been drummed into him by the british army. He used to be a nice lad but now he has turned and its horrible to hear what he has to say. My true feelings for this lad are that i hope he cops a bullet real fast. Have you people any idea what the state are turning your kids into? Theres no glory in having a skitso for a son. Your own kids would turn there guns on you for the state and thats sad.
