A 'stupid' driver has been caught driving through a busy city centre while eating CEREAL at the wheel.

The unidentified male motorist was spotted in Edinburgh eating with a spoon from a white cereal bowl as he drove at 30mph one-handed.

The reckless driver even tips the bowl into his mouth at one point for the last drops of milk as he pulled up to traffic lights.

A stunned cyclist who catches the motorist in the act can be heard saying: 'Driving with a bowl of cornflakes - that's a classic.'

But the driver is so gripped by his breakfast on the move he doesn't even appear to notice he is being filmed.

By law, motorists caught eating or drinking at the wheel can receive three penalty points and a fine of up to £1,000.

The careless driving incident has sparked an angry reaction from both road safety groups and cyclists.

One online commenters described the scene as 'quite staggering', while others urged the person who filmed it to report the driver.

Police in Edinburgh said the incident had not been reported to them, but added they have since launched an investigation.

A spokesperson for the AA said: 'It's pretty stupid. It's unbelievable really. For some people their car in a way becomes their home, and they behave in such a way that they would in their house.

'People just don't seem to have the willpower not to do things they know are wrong, link turning their phone off, or not eating a sandwich while driving.

'It's a must have must do attitude.'
