A 47-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murdering missing oil executive Carole Waugh, Scotland Yard said tonight.
The 50-year-old, originally from Durham, went missing from her home in London earlier this year.
Following Ms Waugh's disappearance there were a number of fraudulent transactions associated with her bank account and her brother Chris appealed for information to help trace his sister.
He said: "We are all very proud of my sister. We are from a mining community in the north east and Carole wanted to improve herself and take any opportunities that life offered her.
DCI John McFarlane of the Homicide and Serious Command is leading the investigation.
