Chelsea Fans Back Terry's Decision To Quit

Chelsea fans have backed John Terry’s decision to quit international football.

The former England skipper said the FA’s decision to pursue racial abuse charges against him after he was cleared in a court of law has made his position with the national side "untenable" .

He will continue to play for Chelsea in the Premier League.

On unofficial internet fans forums, many of the club's supporters said he had been unfairly treated by English football’s governing body, and had made the right decision to step down from the national side.

A fans using the screen name Genjuro said: "Heck he should have (quit) so long ago, he has almost never ever received credit for being such a defender and leader."

Sleeping Dave wrote: "Good lad JT. I knew you'd come to your senses at some point. Best bit of news I heard in a long time. Well done John!

"Now focus on what really matters. Playing for Chelsea and prove you're still the best  central defender England has had in decades. They don't deserve you. Not at all."

Another wrote: "Forever prosecuted and vilified, he deserves better. Should have been more world savvy and all this might not have come to be.

"Of course the whole Anton incident was stupid on his part but he has been vilified for far longer with a big air of hypocrisy and genuine spite."

However JSLCampbell said the move was "bittersweet".

"I want him to prolong his Chelsea career and stay sharp for us. But I can't pretend I'm not going to miss seeing Cole, Lampard and Terry together in the England squad, especially in the big tournaments."

Former England striker Gary Lineker wrote on Twitter: "Whatever you think about John Terry, he always gave his absolute all on the field for England. A strong leader and great defender."

Max Clifford, who previously acted as Terry's media manager, said: "Unless you know exactly why he’s saying that he won’t be playing for England again then it’s difficult to kind of make too much sense of it, because he’s still going to be playing football you assume.

"He’s still going to be playing football with the same people against the same people that he would be playing with as part of the England setup."

Former FA chief executive Mark Palios said Terry had been a "great servant" to England.
