Cinemas Sold Out As Final Potter Film Opens

The final film in the Harry Potter series has opened in sold out cinemas in the UK.

Hundreds of fans queued in a line that stretched around the Odeon cinema in London's Leicester Square to see the midnight screening of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 .

Wearing witches hats, cloaks and glasses and wielding wands, fans were desperate to be part of this magical moment.

Some had bought tickets to see the film months ago and others had come from across the globe to see Harry Potter cast his final spell.

One fanatical family had travelled 4,336 miles from Florida to bid farewell to the boy wizard.

"Our trip has been planned since, what, more than a year or so. So I think we bought tickets about a month ago."

Fans were excited at the prospect of seeing Harry Potter take to the big screen again but there was an element of sadness too as it is the last in the eight-film series.

Chloe from Montreal said: "I think people are probably going to cry. I'm probably going to cry. I just saw the trailer and I had tears in my eyes."

Matilda, from Sweden, added: "I will probably cry after the new movie but Harry Potter will still be in our lives and we will still love it until the day we die."

The London midnight screening was one of several held across the UK to satisfy the huge demand for the film.

Five hours later there were similar scenes in the US as fans queued outside cinemas in New York.

The Harry Potter film franchise is currently the highest grossing film franchise of all time with the seven films already released grossing £3.9bn worldwide.

Experts predict the combination of higher 3D ticket prices and anticipation surrounding the final instalment could see Deathly Hallows Part 2 break box office records.
