Comic-Con's Best Bits: Batman To Mockingjay

Comic-Con's Best Bits: Batman To Mockingjay

Fancy dress, fantasy and comic book heroes were on the menu for the 150,000 visitors to this year's Comic-Con festival.

Here are five highlights from the four-day event.

1) Stepping into Mockingjay

The third instalment of The Hunger Games franchise, Mockingjay - Part 1, was recreated in part to allow fans to step into the stark world of Panem.

An all-white room provided activities from making customised T-shirts to sitting in President Snow's chair and trying baked goods from Peeta's Bakery.

The film's latest trailer also premiered during the convention and fans were able to see Philip Seymour Hoffman in scenes filmed before he died in February.

2) The Simpsons stopped by

From the giant "Homerdome" of Homer's head to Marge Simpson's make-up range launched at the MAC cosmetics store, Fox's hit animated television show The Simpsons celebrated its 25th anniversary by making appearances throughout the convention.

On Saturday, show creator Matt Groening was joined on stage by a life-sized hologram of Homer making quips about the convention, Stephen King and making Groening do a little dance.

A trailer for the Simpsons-Family Guy crossover episode was also shown.

3) Star power

Despite a much more muted Comic-Con in comparison to 2013 - not surprising given that last year, the studios brought together major ensemble casts such as those of X-Men: Days Of Future Past, and The Hunger Games franchise - there were still some fan favourites in attendance.

Benedict Cumberbatch and Daniel Radcliffe both made their Comic-Con debuts, Matthew McConaughey dropped by the Paramount panel to chat about Interstellar, and the superheroes of Avengers: Age Of Ultron, including Robert Downey Jr, Chris Hemsworth and Chris Evans, added star power to the Marvel film panel.

Radcliffe admitted he had donned a Spider-Man costume in order to wander around the crowds anonymously.

4) Game Of Thrones cast

It is not just Winter coming to Westeros - there will also be some new faces.

At the panel for the popular Sky Atlantic show, the producers announced a total of nine new actors joining the series.

Toby Sebastian has been cast as Prince Doran's son, Trystane Martell, the heir to Dorne.

Jessica Henwick will play Nymeria Sand, Rosabell Laurenti Sellers is Tyene Sand and Keisha Castle-Hughes is Obara Sand.

An official Game Of Thrones blooper reel was also revealed.

5) Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman flew in

DC Comics unveiled the first photo of Wonder Woman, played by Gal Gadot, for the new film Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice.

As if that wasn't exciting enough for fans of the Caped Crusader, the film's stars - Ben Affleck , Henry Cavill and Gadot - made an appearance themselves.

Wonder Woman's costume drew a mixed response from fans, with some saying she looked more like Xena: Warrior Princess.
