At least a 40 people are reportedly dead and millions of homes and businesses are without power after the former Hurricane Sandy barreled into the northeast Atlantic coast. Heavy rains and a record storm surge flooded streets and subways in Lower Manhattan and caused scores of people to have to be rescued in multiple states. The now-weakened storm, estimated to be nearly 1,000 miles wide, is forecast to move to the Great Lakes before swinging north into Canada over the next few days.
