Costa Concordia Disaster: 17th Body Found

A woman's body has been found on the wreck of the Costa Concordia cruise ship - the 17th confirmed victim of the disaster.

Fifteen people are still missing after the vessel ran aground near the Italian island of Giglio, on January 13.

News of another body being discovered came as an operation to pump half a million gallons of fuel from the stricken liner was delayed due to rough seas off theTuscan coast.

The choppy waters also partially dislodged a barge that was attached to the ship's hull which will work as a staging platform.

The barge's owner, Dutch salvage firm Smit, had planned to begin pumping fuel out on Saturday.

There are concerns a leak from the 114,000 ton vessel - which is twice the size of the Titanic - could wreak havoc on the protected marine sanctuary.

As divers continue the search for people still missing, they also say the Concordia has become much heavier because of its water-logged furnishings.

And they fear the ship could collapse under the weight.

The owners are trying to decide whether to break it up to sell for scrap or to sink the ship.

It was not clear when the fuel removal operation, which was expected to last up to a month, would begin.

Paola Pagliara from Italy's civil protection forecast centre said weather conditions were likely to remain rough through the weekend.

Passengers have been offered 11,000 euros (£9,184) compensation for lost baggage and psychological trauma after the ship deviated from its route, hit a rock and capsized.

Costa, owned by the world's biggest cruise operator, Carnival, will also reimburse passengers the full costs of their cruise, travel expenses and any medical expenses sustained after the grounding.

The offer was announced after a day of negotiations between Costa representatives and Italian consumer groups representing 3,206 people from 61 countries who were not hurt physically when the ship hit the reef.

Too many unanswered questions for me
What were the many other officers who will have been on the Bridge doing at the time of the collision?
Where are the 1000 plus staff, probably Philipino or Indian who have no lost their livelihoods? Will they be compensated?
How did passengers get home without cash, passports, car keys, car park exit tickets, house keys? Their adventure will not have stopped once they got off of the ship for sure.
Whats happening about the c4000 passengers that were due to go on holiday the week after accident and the week after that for each week of this year? At c£1500 each, Costa wil be losing around £4m - £6m each week. Can the company sustain this loss
The Captian was either unsuitable for the job or insufficiently trained, is he typical of the Captaincy of the other Costa ships?

Are those poor people still being found women or men.
Also what are people doing posing for pictures in front of the wreck.
