Well, I can admit when I'm wrong and boy was I ever wrong in thinking the Denver Nuggets would steamroll a Golden State Warriors team who had won just two games on the road all year. The Warriors came out and played a decent first half, but it was the second half where the Warriors took over the basketball game.
Trailing 51-47 at halftime, the Warriors came out in the third quarter and blew the game wide open outscoring the Nuggets in the quarter 37-20. Denver may have outscored the Warriors inside the paint by a large margin - 48-26 - but the Warriors were shooting the lights out in Denver. They shot 51.9 percent from the field and 52 percent from beyond the three-point line - two of the few things they did better than Denver.
The Nuggets were without leading scorer Danilo Gallinari and it ultimately hurt them as the Warriors were able to score at will.
That goes double for Stephen Curry, who was unconscious in his shooting performance. He was 13-of-17 from the floor including 6-of-9 from three-point range. Not to mention he pulled in seven rebounds and had seven assists during his impressive performance.
In terms of Curry's performance, this is the kind of game that we need out of him on a more consistent basis. Coming out of Davis he was touted for his shooting ability and so far this season, sometimes it has been there and other times it simply hasn't. I understand that he has sprained his ankle three times this season - including preseason - and has sprained it a total of seven times since October 21, 2010, but if his ankle is bothering him to the point where it affects his play, then don't play him. And I know that's easy to say coming from where I'm sitting, but in reality he is a big factor on this team and they need him out there.
Overall, it's been difficult, as a fan, to watch the Warriors at times this season. It's almost like you don't know what team you're going to get. One night, Curry and Monta Ellis will go for 15 combined points and other nights they explode for 60-plus combined. That inconsistency is also the main reason why the Warriors can't seem to put together a winning streak..
The team hasn't won more than two games in a row all season long. In fact, they've only won consecutive games twice this year in 22 games played and haven't done it since January 15 and 17 against the Detroit Pistons and Cleveland Cavaliers.
I just hope the Warriors take what they can from this win and build some type of momentum because miraculously, they are just 3.5 games out of the eighth playoff spot in the Western Conference. They'll have an opportunity to win back-to-back games for the third time this season when they face off against the Houston Rockets at home on Sunday, February 12.
