Online content and services provider Akamai has reported a 92% increase in net income to $36.9m for the first quarter 2008, on revenue up 34% at $187m, boosted by high demand for its web content delivery service.
The company said new customers under long-term services contracts increased 8% to 2,672. Revenue from sales through resellers accounted for 16%, while revenue from outside the US accounted for 25%.
Paul Sagan, president and chief executive at Akamai, said: "We saw strong demand for our services as businesses continued to take advantage of the internet to build global scale and reduce costs associated with infrastructure build-out."
The company expects adjusted earnings for the full year to be between $1.68 and $1.71 per share.
