SAN vendor Brocade has released acceleration software to enable its mainframe enterprise customers to connect, protect, and access business-critical data across virtually any distance.
It said Brocade Accelerator for FICON, available as an optional software license, uses 4G technology and advanced networking capabilities, data management techniques, and protocol intelligence to speed up mainframe-connected disk and tape operations.
Mario Blandini, a director at Brocade's data center infrastructure division, said: "By delivering a service level for remote applications that is not impacted by geographic location, the software allows greater levels of data protection and business continuity in global data centers, and lets customers maximize their investments in the network infrastructures that run their business."
The software, offered in conjunction with Brocade 7500 and 7500E Extension Switches and Brocade FR4-18i SAN Extension Blade, will be available this month from Brocade and Sun Microsystems, and from other OEM providers later in the year.
