The 2012 MLS season is looking a little sweeter for Los Angeles Galaxy fans. After terminating his contract with FC Ingolstadt "by mutual consent," Edson Buddle is returning to the Galaxy. This new development gives our team an offensive edge. In addition, the likelihood of L.A. earning the CONCACAF Champions League title, the Supporters' Shield and MLS Cup seems to be an attainable goal.
Prior to Buddle's signing, I was hoping we would acquire another forward. In 2011, with 12 goals, Landon Donovan was our top scorer. Chad Barrett was second with seven tallies. Yet, now I feel more confident in our new, powerful striker combination. Now, fans can look forward to Buddle pairing up top with Robbie Keane. In the offseason, Keane has been scoring goals for Aston Villa. In 2012, I expect the two to be a lethal scoring duo.
In 2010, Edson Buddle scored 17 goals for the Los Angeles Galaxy. Buddle came in second place to Chris Wondolowski for the Golden Boot Race. From 2007-2010, Buddle scored 42 goals in 87 regular season games for Los Angeles. He helped the Galaxy take the Supporters' Shield in 2010. In addition to being successful in Major League Soccer, Buddle also has 10 caps with the U.S. National Team. During his time with the USMNT, he made three goals and played in the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa. Furthermore, in his last season with Ingolstadt, the forward made seven goals. Clearly, the 30-year-old is just what we need to score more goals and help lead us to another MLS Championship.
A few weeks ago, the state of our roster was uncertain. However, the resigning of David Beckham and the acquisition of Marcelo Sarvas has definitely beefed up our midfield. In addition, both Keane and Donovan are staying sharp in their offseason loans. While I still am hoping for someone to help fill the shoes of Omar Gonzalez, our team is looking stronger every day.
Will the Los Angeles Galaxy have a shot at a trifecta of championships in 2012?
