The once glorious Moseley Road Baths in Birmingham has been drained for years and could be closed for good in less than two years

Decades ago this scene was packed with laughter, energy and fun as families flocked to one of Britain’s most grandiose old public swimming baths.

But fast forward to 2015 and the once glorious Moseley Road Baths in Birmingham lies neglected and eerily empty after falling into disrepair.

The now-drained pool - which closed in 2003 due to soaring repair costs - is one of the oldest of its kind in Britain, with campaigners trying to save it from demolition.

Poolside aisles which were once teeming with youngsters are now dust-covered and disused.

Many original features still remain, however, from the architecturally-stunning facility, which opened in 1907.

In a modern age of bland leisure centres characterless corporate gymnasiums, these images give a fascinating insight into an untouched piece of British history.

Photographer Mike Jones went inside to photograph the baths before they’re gone for good.

Mike, 27, said: I know that the remaining pool is due to close in the next few years so I wanted to get some images before it was too late.

'I wanted to get something different with my shots so I made a special point of going in the late afternoon when the light was a bit softer.

'As it is winter I knew within an hour or so of me getting there it would be dark enough to use torches to really make the photos look good.'

The main gala pool at the baths shut over a decade ago and the second pool, which is still in use, is due to close in the next couple of years.

The stunning property which was opened in 1907 is the oldest Grade II listed swimming baths still operating in the country.

Mike said: 'I really liked the Art Deco feel of the pool, especially the arched roof synonymous with all the old Edwardian baths.

'I've photographed quite a few abandoned and disused places over the past seven years, some buildings are really spectacular and this one is no exception.

'I was in there about three hours as getting around in the dark, as well as trying to get each picture perfect, was quite time consuming.

'Although it's really only one big room there's lots of interesting details to capture and I think the pictures do the stunning architecture justice.'
