Tracey Emin has told Sky News that her latest exhibition of erotic images, on display in her hometown Margate, do not have the "shock factor".
The artist is known for her controversial works, most notably her 1999 Turner nominated installation, The Bed, which consisted of her own unmade dirty bed with used condoms and underwear.
Her latest exhibition explores the themes of love, sex and romanticism featuring drawings, monoprints, sculptures, tapestries and neons.
On display at the Turner Contemporary in Margate, her work sits alongside those of JMW Turner and Auguste Rodin.
Emin told Sky News that compared to their more "pornographic" work, hers seems "soft and whimsical".
Explaining the exhibition, she said: "Sex doesn't fit into art, sex fits into life. It's part of life.
"My work is not about sex or eroticism really, it's about the end of all that. It's about being a woman, being 50 and saying goodbye to those things and understanding that I've got to move on and life has to change."
Emin admitted the pressure involved in exhibiting her work in her home town was "immense".
The exhibition entitled She Lay Down Deep Beneath the Sea: Tracey Emin at Turner Contemporary opens on May 26.
