    FA To Contest UEFA Charge

The Football Association are likely to contest a charge that England fans attempted a pitch invasion during their Euro 2012 win against Sweden.

European football's world governing body took action against the FA today, charging them with "inappropriate conduct" of their supporters during Friday night's 3-2 win in Kiev.

The FA are planning to submit written evidence to help escape punishment before a UEFA Control and Disciplinary Body hearing on Wednesday.

Around 30 supporters surged towards the barriers after the second and third England goals.

It is understood the FA will argue there was no intent to invade the pitch, and that the supporters were simply showing their exuberance after their side recovered from 2-1 down.

Last week Croatia were fined £20,298 for the behaviour of their fans during their Group C game against Republic of Ireland.
