Firefox 10 brings Mozilla browsing to double digits

It took us almost seven years to get from the first iteration of Firefox to version 4.0, but now we're already up to version 10, taking less than a year to get to double digits from the 4.0 launch thanks to Mozilla's new rapid release plan.

As well as a couple of little changes such as a hidden forward button, more compatibility with add-ons, extra WebGL and CSS3 support, the new browser also adds full screen APIs that allow you to build a web application that runs full screen. Basically, it's a load of developer changes rather than anything exciting on the front-end.

It seems like only weeks ago we were waxing lyrical about Firefox 9. Actually, it was - Mozilla seems to have Firebox on a six-week cycle. Google is just as crazy in hitting the high numbers with ubiquitous software releases though - in just over three years we're already up to version 16 (or 18 for the dev version).

The Android version of Firefox 10 adds multitouch gesture support to the mobile browser and, according to the Firefox 10 beta blog post, Firefox Sync will be "enhanced with an easier setup process so you can pair your Android phone, tablet or any Firefox-enabled device without needing to be at your desktop computer.

Super stuff. You can grab it now - it's free.

That's not really a big cause for celebration. Opera has had double figures browsers for several years now; which, for the record are far more superior than Firefox. Opera is faster, more stable and more secure then Firefox. Come on Mozilla, keep up!!!

Rock on, Opera is so much faster and gets a thumbs up from me. :-)

Yes, compare Opera against Firefox with the FasterFox add-on. Firefox at the default state is very quick, all modern browsers are quick to a certain percentage that is acceptable. I dislike the idea that users come and boast another browser, some just do it because one tiny thing does not work in their favor. I have tried Opera and I don't see the difference, with performance, and the scrolling is not synched right, this occurs when I make small scrolling steps.(That is very much annoying)

browsing slowed right down with firefox 10, reinstalled 9 and back to normal speed

10 is much faster and much more responsive than 9, so I am completely lost on the situation where it "slowed right down." Common culprits are: Add-ons, settings, left-over junk from the previous version when you update directly(I recommend clean-installing all the time for best performance), maybe left-over junk from your browsing habits that need to be deleted, and that is about 10% of the reasons.
