Across America, the anticipation of resort season beginning has everyone tweeting about snowboarding.
One tweet says, "Shaun White was in my dream last night... I guess it is time to go snowboarding."
Along with snowboarding anticipation, Twitter users are citing snowboarding as the only reason to like winter at all. Among their posts, patterns arise such as what else they will be doing in the snow, which slopes are already open, staying safe, and snowboarding gear they have on their Christmas wish list.
The only reason to like winter
When you want it to be winter and are tired of waiting, you might wish for indoor snowboarding to become a reality. As one tweet says, "I only like winter is for snowboarding." Along with posts like those, newbies are tweeting about their hopes of finally landing a 360 off a jump this season.
Others posted to #itsabeautifulworldbecause with winter sports passion and stated, "It is snowing and that means snowboarding, snow forts, snow sledding, snowball fights, tobogganing and Christmas are soon." However, most tweets restated that once they had their season pass, they were hitting the slopes.
Snowboarding before December
ESPN publishes a ski resort report that lists the projected openings throughout America. The updated status cites that most will be opening the week of Thanksgiving through the second week of December. Right now, a competition between resorts seems to be going on between other snowboarders that are in the final stages of snowboarding starvation.
Other tweeted reports stating, "My cousin lives in Colorado and it has already been snowboarding." This post was followed by #jealous and #wishilivedthere. Unfortunately, for some snowboarders, their states will be waiting for resort season to begin as late as December.
Christmas snowboarding gift wishes
For Christmas break, many college students were saying that they were going to skip a sunny California vacation for snowboarding this year. Others were broadcasting the snowboarding related gifts they want. While some were sticking with the usual binders, jacket, pants, and a new snowboard, others were very specific. For example, some want eco-friendly and green products in their stockings for Christmas such as a gummy stone .
Staying clear of injuries
With all sports, injuries are part of the game. For this reason, many posted to forums declaring, "After my surgery and I am cleared we are going snowboarding!" Others are looking for preventative measures, like snowboarding goggles, to make sure that they do not repeat last season's mistakes.
One of the most popular re-tweets was from Men's Health. In the linked article, a doctor that works with winter sports athletes published his warnings about snowboarding without injuries. This is a popular issue that is not a laughing matter despite the fact comedian Eddie Izzard is popularly re-tweeted as saying, "There's only two positions when snowboarding: one is looking cool the other is dead." More than anything, snowboarders all seem to agree that staying safe is the best way to have fun all winter.
