Doncaster School To Remember Crash Teens

Students at a Doncaster school will be offered counselling after four pupils and a former student died in a "horrific" two-car crash.

The four pupils - Blake Cairns, 16, Arpad Kore, 18, Jordanna Goodwin, 16, and Megan Storey, 16 - were all sixth-form students at Danum Academy.

A fifth teenager, Bartosz Bortniczak, 18, was a well-remembered former student.

Head teacher Rebecca Staples said as pupils return to school today, they will be offered counselling and quiet rooms to help them cope with their grief.

Ms Staples said: "Blake Cairns, Jordanna Goodwin, Arpad Kore, and Megan Storey were all flourishing in our sixth form.

"They were popular, lively and loved by those who knew them and many students looked up to them within our community."

The teenagers died when their Toyota Corolla collided with a Seat vehicle in foggy conditions on the A630 just outside Conisbrough at about 9.40pm on Saturday.

The driver of the Seat suffered a broken leg.

A 21-year-old man believed to have been driving a third vehicle has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

Police believe the five teenagers met up with this driver at a McDonald's restaurant in Doncaster some time before the crash.

The suspect, a Doncaster resident, has been released on police bail while officers continue to investigate the crash.

Inspector Pete Serhatlic, of South Yorkshire police, described the crash scene as "absolutely horrific", adding: "There are no other words to describe it."

One man who lives nearby said: "We just heard a thud, just like a car door closing. That's all.

"Then the wife saw the blue lights and we went out and it was just terrible."

Many teenagers visited the scene on Sunday to leave flowers with messages of condolence.

Among the tributes left by the roadside, one said: "In loving memory of such a kind and funny young lad with a bright future ahead of him."

Another said: "My little party animal. Going to miss all the banter and cuddles. I'm still your diamond. Never forgotten my angel."

Not far from Saturday's crash are memorials to three teenagers who died in another car crash in January 2011.

The trio, aged 14, 15 and 16, died after their car slid off an icy bend and hit a tree.

Insp Serhatlic said: "It's the second multiple fatality within a short space of time but it's not really a location where you consistently get road traffic collisions of a serious nature.

"It's just that the ones you do get on that stretch of road seem to, unfortunately, involve multiple deaths."
