Flickr web revamp adopts Windows Metro style interface

Yahoo has given Pocket-lint a "sneak peek" at the forthcoming Flickr redesign which it hopes to make live soon. It's been rejigged to present simpler and more dynamic navigation, and a more elegant layout, and we reckon it's not a million miles away from Microsoft's Metro style design found on Windows Phone 7 and the forthcoming Windows 8 operating system.

It's also similar to the newly launched PS Vita Flickr application, which is aesthetically tile based too. Clearly this is a theme going forward. And having used that for a wee while now, we have to say that we approve.

Parent company Yahoo claims that the new Flickr web experience is "an evolving design, one that will develop over time". It tells us that the new contacts page will be the first to make use of the grid system, but there will also be "new ways to upload and organize photos" and "increased social integrations and community activity".

The redesign has also been undertaken to enhance interaction across mobile devices, with Yahoo claiming that 11 billion photos were shared from mobile phones in 2010, with that number to effectively double by 2015.

We'll keep you informed as to when the redesign is due to hit.
