Flyers Drop Another Game Against Rangers: A Fan's Reaction

The Philadelphia Flyers picked a bad time to lose consecutive games. Coming off of a disappointing loss to the New Jersey Devils the Flyers had a chance for some quick redemption against the New York Rangers. Unfortunately things didn't happen the way the Flyers wanted. The Rangers beat the Flyers 5-2 in a game that was closer than the final score indicated. However, a loss is a loss and the Flyers are now 0-4 against their division rival. As a Flyers fan I hope the team regains confidence and rebounds from this one. The mental anguish of losing to the Rangers like this has to be getting to them. But this team is too deep and too strong to not turn things around.

This was a tight game for most of the contest. The Rangers took a 1-0 lead but the Flyers tied it on a goal from Brayden Schenn. New York led 2-1 entering the third period but Wayne Simmonds tied it less than a minute into the final frame. New York quickly regained the lead and the Flyers couldn't respond. Despite having several power plays and many chances they just couldn't beat Henrik Lundqvist again. The Rangers got some insurance with a goal to go ahead 4-2. They added an empty netter to win by three.

Ilya Bryzgalov made some great saves in this game. He faced 37 shot and was bombarded a lot. Despite the solid saves he was definitely the more inferior goalie on the ice. Lundqvist was spectacular in the third period. He faced 14 less shots than Bryzgalov but made the saves when it counted the most. Despite allowing four goals fans shouldn't think that Bryzgalov has regressed. While he wasn't as great as he has been the past few games he was mostly there. You can't pin this loss on him.

The Flyers offense didn't get enough chances in this game. They were too timid in the first two periods and once again found themselves playing from behind. That has been a problem in most of the losses for the team this season, especially against the Rangers. The Flyers need to clear the mental hurdle against this team. They will get another shot when the Rangers visit the Wells Fargo Center on Saturday, February 11. All it will take is one win to get the monkey off the back.
