Flyers Snap Skid Against Maple Leafs: A Fan's Reaction

The Philadelphia Flyers snapped out of their slump with a win over the Toronto Maple Leafs on Thursday, February 9. Philadelphia finally got a first period goal when Scott Hartnell scored. That came into play as the team went on to win the game 4-3. The victory snapped a three game winless streak and restored some spark to the Flyers offense. As a fan I was happy to see the team get back on the winning track. They need the momentum with another game against the New York Rangers coming up on Saturday, February 11.

The goal from Hartnell gave the Flyers a 1-0 lead entering the second period. That was a wild one as each team scored three goals in the second. The Flyers got goals from Max Talbot, Claude Giroux, and Brayden Schenn. Schenn's goal put the Flyers ahead 4-2 and ended up being the game winner. It was nice to see the Flyers find their offensive stride again. They will need it against the Rangers.

Outside of the second period, Sergei Bobrovsky was solid in net. He filled in for Ilya Bryzgalov as the top goalie was sick with the flu. Bobrovsky faced 27 shots and stopped 24 of them. It wasn't a great game but he came through when it mattered. Bobrovsky stopped 10 shots in the third period and shut down a late power play for the Maple Leafs. It was a nice way for him to rebound after a terrible performance in his last start.

With this win in the books the Flyers can move on from their little slump. Now they have to focus on the Rangers, a team that has beaten them four times in four games this season. The Rangers are ahead of the Flyers in the division but the margin is slim. Beating the Rangers is not only important in terms of the standings but also for their own confidence. Philadelphia knows they can beat New York but they just need to prove it to themselves. Hopefully the win over Toronto will give them some inspiration.
