The parents of a five-week-old baby attacked by a fox in his home have hit out at internet trolls who blamed them for what happened.

Paul Dolan and Hayley Cawley spoke of their torment today after internet bullies accused them of owning a dog that was responsible for the attack on baby Dennie last week.

Little Dennie is still recovering after being attacked in his home in south-east London on February 6.

The youngster received hand and facial injuries after the attack and was treated at a high dependency hospital unit.

In their first interview since the attack, Ms Cawley told ITV's Daybreak the online taunts had been 'terrible'.

She said: "I did have a little look and then I had to close the page down because I just thought ‘Oh my God’.

"Saying about me having a dog and stuff – I’ve never had a dog in my life."

It is thought that one of Dennie's fingers was severed in the attack, but later reattached by surgeons in a 'delicate and difficult' three-hour procedure.

Ms Cawley claimed that if her son had been any smaller, the fox could've dragged him faster and 'things could have been much worse'.

She added: "It’s the worst nightmare I’ve ever experienced in my life."

Ms Cawley said she could 'never go back' to the house where the attack happened.

She explained: "No, I'd never go back there. As soon as it happened I just said I'm not going back there, I could never relive that every day.

"It’s bad enough as it is, I'm not dealing with it too well as it is."
