Freddie's Roller And Del's Capri Up For Sale

A Rolls Royce belonging to Freddie Mercury is being auctioned at the Autosport International show in Birmingham.

The Silver Shadow was bought for the former Queen frontman's personal use by his managing company Goose Productions Ltd in 1979 and was used by the singer until his death in November 1991.

But Mercury never actually drove it himself, as he did not have a driving licence. Instead he relied on three chauffeurs who shared the driving duties.

With a guide price of £9,000-£11,000, the luxury car was last used for the premiere of the Queen musical We Will Rock You in 2002.

It has covered minimal mileage and has remained with Mercury's family ever since.

Another special car among the lots being sold by auctioneers COYS at the NEC is the 1980 Ford Capri S from TV comedy Only Fools And Horses - estimated to fetch between £24,000 and £28,000.

Although the main motor star of the sitcom was the yellow three-wheel Reliant Supervan, many of the later episodes featured the green Capri, with tiger fur interior and pink aerials.

The present owner bought the car in 1998 from MGM Cars Ltd of Elstree Studios - apparently for £400 - and has kept the car since.
