Fresh Arrests Over Fatal Derby House Fire

A 34-year-old man and a 29-year-old woman have been arrested in connection with a house fire in Derby that killed six children.

Jade Philpott, 10, and her brothers John, nine, Jack, eight, Jesse, six, and Jayden, five, perished in the blaze at their home in Victory Road on May 11 after suffering smoke inhalation.

Their 13-year-old brother Duwayne was taken to hospital after being pulled from the house by firefighters. He died two days later at Birmingham Children's Hospital.

The youngsters were laid to rest at Chaddesden's Nottingham Road Cemetery following a service at St Mary's Roman Catholic Church in Derby last month.

The children's parents, Mick Philpott, 55, and his 31-year-old wife Mairead, have been charged over the six alleged murders and are due to go on trial next year. They did not attend the funeral.

Assistant Chief Constable Steve Cotterill, of Derbyshire Police, said: "These latest arrests are part of the ongoing investigation into the circumstances surrounding the fire.

"Despite the fact that two people have already been charged with murder, we are continuing our investigation to ensure that all lines of inquiry are completed.

"No further information will be released at this time."

Anyone who has any information about the fire is asked to contact Derbyshire Police or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
